I came across this
site on a search a couple of years
ago. The Irish census stuff became
available only recently. By
coincidence it is a project of the
Irish Archives crowd where they have
buddied up with Canada since Canada
had already developed the
technology. They intend to include
the 1901 census fairly soon, so we
would have access to both 1911 &
1901. The earlier census records
were mostly destroyed by fire during
the Irish Civil War of 1922.
The Griffith's Valuation material is
interesting too and it is good that
it is now on line. Your Dad, Frank
was the only one of the Daly
Brothers that I have met. Teresa and
I met him in Michigan in 1968. He
was great fun. We had just come to
North America then, had no children
at the time, and went camping across
the continent. I never met my aunt
Margaret or Jim Daly. One thing came
to mind since I sent the last bit of
stuff to Marilyn - My sister,
Bernie, still lives in the house I
mentioned that we got in 1950. Your
Dad visited and stayed there. He
would not have been aware nor was I
until recently that he was walking
around land cultivated in the 1850's
by James Daly (Daley), who I presume
was his great-grandfather. Jim Daly,
still alive at 90+ has always been
our neighbour in Ireland. He is the
son of Peter, your grandfather's
brother, and that James would have
been Peter's grandfather. Peter's
father was also James but 60 in
1911, hence too young to be the head
of the house in 1854.
I'm plugging away at trying to find
a bit more on the Gannons. As you
will see from my Mother's stuff, she
was only guessing at birthdates
before they came to the
Rochfortbridge parish. Mother did
not get any further with specifics,
but she knew they came from the Co.
Meath/Co. Kildare area. I believe
from the status Edward Gannon had
and the Swan and Boylan connections
that I have a fairly good line on
which Gannons they were. I'll
continue to play around with that
and hopefully it will work out.
We live in St. John's, Newfoundland,
Canada. We have three children,
Fiona, Shannon, and Adrian. The
girls are married. Fiona has four:
Liam, Gemma, Aiden, Julia. Shannon
has one: Ciara. Both of the girls
kept their own names through
marriage.
Again, great job and it is wonderful
that you are working on this.
Take care,
Fintan |
